Met Marion in Spanish Fork for a little morning walk.  We did 5 miles walk jogging.  It’s the first time I’ve seen one of my ‘running’ friends in over a year. Then as I came home, I couldn’t help but cross the path of the UVM runnings heading down University Ave coming out of the canyon. So I got out of my car ran from my house down to the 22 mile marker.  The marathon was winding between the 4th and 5th hour.  I did a lot of cheering to groups that looked like they were hurting more than me (some yes, some no).  My daughter was up the canyon with the THS XC team, manning the station at Deer Creek (mile 9).  So I started running that way.  I ran up and down the mile 21-24 corridor jogging with a few tail- enders who seemed happy to have some support.  By the time I was done, I'd jogged another 6 miles (on top of my morning).  I am so happy to feel like I'm getting better (instead of always worse, as it's been these past 2 years). Utah Valley Marathon was my last marathon one year ago today.  It was the beginning of the end. This time last year I literally thought I was dying. I may have to get tumors taken out of me from time to time--but overall, I feel so much better than last year. I am so much healthier overall.  I have my blood sugar into the 60's instead of 40's.  I can make it through most days without passing out or collapsing (which happened less and less frequently after I stopped running).  I have been exercising vigorously since March and doing what I can to both stretch and strengthen my quads and hamstrings as the ortho doc has instructed me. I’ve continued my 400 sit ups, 60 push ups , planking, squats routine. My hamstring will always be 3 times fatter than it should be because of prologued tendonosis, my hip will always hurt and I’ll always be unsure of my foot if it it’s a certain angle.  But I am outside, doing my thing!  One week down of jogging 3-5 and then walking another 3-4.  I’m glad I’ve kept it up. The original achiness I felt last Saturday has subsided.  For the first time in two years—I feel like I’m getting stronger instead of going down hill.  That is a gift.  I have been so sick for so long, I’ve forgotten what it feels like to feel ‘stronger’ after exercising. I don’t know if I’ll ever recover full range of motion on the left leg, not sure if I’ll ever run another marathon, or run fast again. But I feel pretty confident I can continue exercising by running 4-6 miles a day like normal people.

Luz!!! This post makes me so happy! SO SO SO happy to hear you are feeling so much better and healthier! GREAT run! WONDERFUL come back!

I dropped off 6 friends at the start at 5:15 then went to cheer at the mouth of the canyon from 6 10am. Then drove up and down between mile 22 24,and back up the canyon and turn around at Nunn's searching for a friend of a friend whom we missed and thought was struggling about the time you were cheering. I wish I had known you were cheering at those miles! You probably saw Wendy, my neighbor, she finished in 5:11.

I was thinking about you all morning! I should've called you! Missing you so much!

Actually, my daughter said she saw you between mile 17-20 standing on the side of the road cheering as they drove away from the aid station after the last runner around 9:45. I'd sort of hoped to bump into you too. But by the time I got there it was literally the last 20 people on the road. 10:30-11:10 ish. I found the last pacer, he said there were 4 others walking at the tail end. I didn't plan today very well. I really had planned to ignore it. It's still sad for me not knowing if I'll ever participate again. So I was worried I'd get sad, but I didn't. I had such a minor victory of my own, I didn't mind. But I am sorry I missed seeing you. I do miss you too. RHPC?

Yep, I was the obnoxious cow bell ringer with the 2011 Boston long sleeve yellow shirt standing by the "Halloween Half" hearse! :)

I am not sure if I can run RHPC! I had a stress fracture on Feb 11 running a forest trail marathon in Texas. Then 3 weeks ago had another stress fracture (same foot, different metatarsal) at the Ogden Marathon and DNF. I was sad that I had to defer today's marathon. Like you, UVM is my favorite. When I DNF'd at Ogden on mile 6, the cop called my hubby to meet me at mile 17. I had him take me to the finish where I cheered and supported the runners for 3 hours with my painful foot. I remember how MichelleL would cheer us standing with her crutches at UVM few years ago. She inspired me. Today I spent 5 hours cheering, not counting the time driving and transporting runners.

I hope to see you at RHPC even if I can't run it!

SO HAPPY for your personal victory today. Keep up the positive attitude. You are healing and triumphing over so much the last 2 years! :)

oh man, I am so sorry to hear what happened at Ogden. You are a champ for following in Michelle's footsteps. I think I wasn't ready to face the race, because I doubt I'll ever run another marathon. I should be more like you and Michelle. As far as the RHPC, I don't think I can run it either. I don't think anyone will even support it. I offered to organize it if everyone would give $5 or $10 to my Kidney Walk (that I'm doing for work) but no one is signing up.....so maybe there won't be one anyway. I hope your foot and bones heal up quickly. You are so brave for staying to the end of the OM to cheer your friends. You really are amazing. Your positive energy and faith have taught me so much about looking forward, and not back. Let me know when you are walking and I'll come wobble with you up on the JRP :)
