I ran my first marathon as a teenager in 1981 with my Dad (The Coronado Marathon). Since then I've run St, George (3x) Utah Valley (3x) Ogden (1 full, 2 halves) Park City (1 x) Boston Marathon (1x) Washington DC (1x) Moab Half Marathon (6x) ,Ye Old Freedom Festival 5 & 10K (a million x) and many others.

But I'm all done with that now.  I'm officially a jogger.

My running goal is to keep on keepin' on.

Jog into the sunset.

I walked a slow 4 miles because after skiing --it became apparent that the real damage done by the 'treadmill incident' was done to my sacrum/ilum region.  Wow, I didn't know before skiing that there was more than a bruise.  Tempted by 10 inches of new powder I couldn't resist.  However, the first time my ski hit a bit of scrape beneath the powder I got a sharp pain that went up and down the left side of my leg and back--which then ached every time I sat on the chair lift.  Silly me, I skied  the rest of the day telling myself I'd be careful to stick with the powder. But when I came home and couldn't get out of the car by myself I wondered how I'd skied all day?  Its proof of my mind can ignore pain when I’m experiencing euphoria or some other pleasurable activity.  Because now, sitting down at my desk, I am in utter pain.  800 mg ibuprophen are not even touching the ache.  Ice helps.  The biggest bummer is not being able to ski this week.  It feels that serious.  Who knew my treadmill could betray me after 12,000 miles, a belt replacement and a tune up.  I can't believe what an idiot I have become (how could I have forgotten it was on?).

O man! I just read your last week's posts and your treadmill accident. I did exactly the same last Jan. stepping onto a moving treadmill at home. My treadmill was positioned against a corner of the room, wall at the back and right side, the left side was next to an elliptical that my daughter-in-law was on. My granddaughter was watching a children's show on the wall mount TV so the room was dark. I stepped off to turn on the ceiling fan momentarily and talking to my daughter-in-law to make sure that the fan didn't bother her at the same time looking over at my granddaughter and absentmindedly stepped on the mill. My feet went flying under me and I couldn't roll off as there was no room. My daughter jumped off the elliptical to shut off the mill but the damage was already done! I learned the hard lesson to either pause or stop the machine if I ever need to get off no matter how brief.

I hope your injury is minimal and hopefully you can return to skiing and running after a couple days of taking it easy!

I feel so foolish. Worse yet, is the number of days it's taken me to fully realize the injuries. I thought it was just bruises and burns, but whatever is going on in my back is a big suprize. Yes, I will never keep the treadmill running again (when I've done that it's only because it takes so long for it to get back up to speed). But lesson learned. I'm sure the damage is just normal back-out-of whack--but how long to heal it? I've never had a back injury, ever. Thanks for the kindness--I am so glad I'm not the only one (though I'm told there are plenty of YoutTube treadmill fails). I never considered myself 'one of those' people :)
