Thank you to Josse who blogged a positive affirmation that I chanced to read just before bed. " I WILL get better"  I said this over and imagined it over again as I went to sleep (while lying on top of a blue gel ice pack and 800 mg of Ibuprofen).  I woke up and the pain was about 70% gone.  I  took my daughter to soccer and then ran a really easy 3.  It is so lush outside it almost brings me to tears.  I can't wait for Saturday just because I'm pretty sure it's going to be a beautiful cool-ish day going down the canyon. Just as I was stretching my finish, Sasha and Jeff passed and invited me to another mile. So we jogged and chatted about Sarah and Kimya and Saturday.  I've now been sitting on ice for over 48 hours, and I have to warn you (in case you didn't know) ice really does burn your skin.  In a panic to get that piriformitis under control, I've left pillowy red welts on my bum from sitting on blue gel ice packs.

Good luck Saturday.

YIKES!! I'm so sorry that you've got those welts! I hope they don't end up being a nuisance Saturday. Glad you got some nice easy miles in, your positive thoughts and good care will carry you through Saturday. You can just pretend that someone tricked you into running twice as far as you wanted to and that you're gonna see it to the end anyway :)

That is so funny. I forgot about how you guys tricked me into 17 miles! That early in the year, I could feel those 2 extra miles! On Saturday, maybe I could just get on the bus at 4:00 a.m. sit down next to a stranger, and say "I'm so excited for this Provo half marathon! I'm ready!" and see what they say.

From RAD on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 16:18:16 from 67.166.99.8

LOL!!! I think you should!! I would love to see their reaction! I might try that next time, I'm always up for a good laugh!

OH $#!+ What in the crap is your bum thinking??? That darn piriformis is such a pain in the @$$!!! Why don't you come over tonght and I will feed you ice cream and dig that bugger to death with my elbow???

(chuckle about the ice burn... that is no fun!)

You just run with me. It can be your mission to get me to the end. I just made my 26.2 Virgin iron on. as soon as my shirt gets out of the wash, I am going to iron that puppy on. Oh and my favorite shorts don't have pockets, so I just made a "pocket" that I am going to sew on the back for my gu :) It is black with hot pink flowers. It even has a zipper :) Do you want me to make you an iron-on that says "Sherpa"? Or one that says, "Running is a pain in my @$$"

(is is swearing if you do it in symbols?)

From LuzyLew on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 16:54:06 from 208.187.197.42

I was raised by monkeys and sailors so swearing with bonifide letters still isn't swearing where I come from.

Luzy -- I am sending healing vibes your way. I have "ice-burnt" myself many times, once it even turned my skin grey and seriously I thought I was going to get gangrene -- use a towel between you and the ice pack.

Do you have a golf ball or baseball to sit on? Hurts like heck (though I am imagining that Marion's elbow would hurt even more) - but gives me a lot of relief.

Good LUCK!!! transmitting healthy butt-waves now ........

Maybe a chiropractor? Or sitting in the river? (I picture the swollen stream washing you out to Utah Lake.....)

Keeping my fingers crossed that you will be fine on Saturday.

My friend works in a Neuroligists office and they were seeing a Kenyan elite runner with "dead foot". He had put an ice pack on the back of his knee after a marathon and KILLED a major nerve in there. The nerve regenerates at the rate of an inch a month. He killed 18 inches of it. Use a towel like Bonnie said and then only 20 minutes out of every hour at the very most.

xoxoxoxo

I think David likes doing the elbo move on me. It makes me SCREAM and swear at him! ;)

From LuzyLew on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 17:51:07 from 208.187.197.42

Oh my gosh, who knew the perils of ice? Well except for that whole frostbite thingy. It just doesn't seem that dangerous when it comes out of the freezer right next to the ice cream.

From Smooth on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 18:00:22 from 71.36.64.224

You girls are so FUNNY! I needed that laugh today!

Bummer about the freezer burnt bun. Hey, I didn't know you're running UVM on Sat. FUN!!!

From Bonnie on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 18:05:48 from 128.196.228.134

Oh Man Luz -- you made water come out of my nose!

From RAD on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 18:14:33 from 67.166.99.8

I've got the solution! Next time just use Ice cream...then it will be gone (because you can't help but eat it when its so close to you!) within 20 minutes and it will take you another 40 minutes to decide to get up off the couch to go get more (we all know about the 40 minute ice cream coma, right?)!

From LuzyLew on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 18:28:37 from 208.187.197.42

What about a couch, sculpted out of ice cream? Good for sitting AND eating....

From RAD on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 18:35:22 from 67.166.99.8

ahhhh....now we're thinking!!! however, I wouldn't want people sitting in MY ice cream :)

From Bonnie on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 18:39:22 from 128.196.228.134

ewwwwwww, RAD that is just too gross!!! maybe if the couch was Neopolitin -- so there was clear delination between sections ... no, ewwwww still gross.
